How long will Chiropractic take to work?
Guidelines for medical practitioners state that spinal manipulation can help back pain, especially if carried out within the first six weeks. The longer you have been in pain, the longer it may take to improve with treatment. Your chiropractor will advise you of your likely recovery time and how to minimise the chances of the problem happening again. Early treatment is important but chiropractors are also effective at treating long-standing or chronic pain.
Will treatment hurt?
No, Chiropractic treatment does not hurt when carried out by a qualified professional. You may feel some short term discomfort if there is muscle spasm around the area to be treated. If your problem has not been treated for a long time there may be some post-treatment soreness. Your chiropractor will tell you if this is likely to happen and how to minimise any discomfort.
Is it safe?
Chiropractic is one of the safest health professions in the world. Your chiropractor will do a complete examination and may take x-rays to determine if there is any reason why you can't be helped through Chiropractic care. If your chiropractor feels that Chiropractic treatment is not appropriate for the cause of your problem, you will be referred to your GP or to a suitable specialist.
How often will I have to visit?
The number of adjustments varies with each patient and their individual health goals. Many patients sense some progress within a week or two of frequent visits. Visits are less often as your spine stabilises. In difficult cases, complete healing can take months or even years.
